Jaggery as Medicine

Jaggery [Gur] is a traditional unrefined non-centrifugalwhole cane sugarconsumed in most of the countries in the world. It is a concentrated product of cane juice/Date juice without separation of themolasses and crystals, and can vary from golden brown to dark brown in color.[1] It contains up to 50%sucrose, up to 20%invert sugars, moisture content of up to 20%, and the remainder made up of other insoluble matter such as wood ash, proteins.

Uses of Jaggery as Medicine:

1. Jaggery is a sweet thing. It is an important item which gives energy to the body. Jaggery develops our
health in all respect.

2. Juice of jaggery is better to reduce thirst. Mixture of coconut and banana is a very good energetic food.

3. If warm paste of ghee and jaggery applied to the part of pain, it will be reduced.

4. If jaggery is taken with fresh curds, cold will be reduced.

5. If there is a
ny head-ache, take a piece of one year old jaggery and mix with milk and ghee and apply to th

e fore-head, the head-ache will gradually be reduced.

6. If equal part of Jaggery and cow ghee is taken for four or five days, the head-ache will be reduced.
